NEWS & UPDATES
The UPLB Center for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning (CATL) recently concluded a comprehensive three-week learning object (LO) development training program. Held from May 8 to 22, the training aimed to enhance the skills and expertise of UPLB academic staff in the design and production of learning objects and other interactive learning materials.
The program covered topics relevant to technology integration in education. Participants explored the effective use of technology for teaching and learning and studied the LO development process, from conceptualization to storyboarding and production. Highlighted software tools for producing LOs and other interactive learning materials included Canva for graphic design and presentations, Miro for collaboration and project management, H5P interactive content within a learning management system (LMS), and Google Sites for website creation.
In addition, visual design fundamentals were discussed to help participants create visually appealing and engaging learning objects. They were also given an orientation on the guidelines for crafting LO grant proposals.
The training sessions combined in-person and asynchronous learning experiences. Through synchronous lectures delivered by expert resource speakers and asynchronous assessment activities facilitated via the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS), participants engaged in an immersive learning environment. Throughout the three weeks, participants were actively involved in three workshops. They wrote the rationale, treatment, and objectives (RTO), created a storyboard, and produced a prototype LO, allowing them to apply the knowledge and skills acquired during the training.
CATL Director Dr. Edmund G. Centeno closed the event by facilitating a show-and-tell session among the participants. This allowed the participants to get further feedback and suggestions based on the knowledge and skills they gained from the training sessions.
With the successful conclusion of this training program, CATL remains committed to its mission of fostering innovative teaching and learning methods at UPLB by ensuring educators are equipped with the essential tools and skills to adapt to the continuously evolving educational technology landscape.
