For the second year in a row, the UPLB Center for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning (CATL) staff attended the De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute’s (DLSMHSI) Edtech Day, now on it’s 6th year, at De La Salle Cavite’s Animo Center on 25-26 November 2024. Spearheading the team was Ms Beverly R. Pabro, CATL University Extension Specialist, along with Mr Leonilo H. Torio, Administrative Assistant, Ms Marilou L. Mercado, Administrative Aide, and Joel Anthony T. Cardenas, Design Specialist.

With the theme” Redefining Educational Methodologies for the Digital Age”, the two-day event was highlighted by engaging discussions and presentations by leading experts in artificial intelligence (AI) at the plenary sessions. Guest speakers included Dr. Paulito Hilario, Prof. Keno Villavicencio and Dr. Allen Andrew Alvarez on the first day and Dr. Michael Lawenko, Dr. Nilo Bugtai, Dr. Justin Wade Fernandez and Mr. Ismael Jerusalem on the second day.

Several national and international industry technology and education advocates joined the event and presented their insights on how their respective companies can help bolster the country’s budding AI adaptation efforts. Representatives from industry giants such as PowerMac Center, OpenLMS C&E Adaptive Learning Solutions, ScienceStar Phils, and ERL Technology Solutions, among others, shared their thoughts on how educators can take advantage of the opportunities provided by the fast-paced advancement of artificial intelligence (AI), while also navigating the pitfalls and problems that it can create.

Each company also offered visitors more engaging presentations via product showcases, demonstrations, and games in their respective booths at the exhibition areas. To help pique the participants’ interest, they also provided sample products and service subscriptions that were raffled out as prizes throughout the plenary sessions.
