The UPLB Center for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning (CATL) presented two research papers at the 2023 International Conference on Open and Innovative Education (ICOIE) held at the Hong Kong Metropolitan University, Hong Kong SAR on July 4–6, 2023.
Dr. Edmund Centeno, director of UPLB CATL, presented a paper titled “Evaluation of Canvas LMS: Remote Learning Experiences of Students during the Pandemic.” His research delved into the effectiveness of the Canvas LMS in facilitating remote learning during the global crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The study examined the experiences and challenges faced by students in adapting to online learning platforms. Furthermore, Ms. Beverly Pabro, University Extension Specialist, contributed to the conference with her paper titled “Teaching in Cyberspace: Teachers’ Experiences in Using an LMS as a Teaching and Learning Tool during the Pandemic.” Her presentation highlighted the unique obstacles encountered by educators during the sudden shift to remote teaching. Ms. Pabro shared her valuable insights on the effective utilization of LMS platforms to enhance the teaching and learning experience.
CATL’s active participation and valuable contributions showcased the center’s dedication to exploring innovative approaches in education and using technology to improve learning outcomes. Dr. Centeno and Ms. Pabro’s research added to the conversation about remote learning and how LMS platforms can help in difficult situations.
