1 June 2024 marks yet another milestone for UPLB CATL as its Innovation Laboratory (iLab) formally opened its doors to the University’s students, faculty, and staff.

CATL hosted a simple ceremony attended by distinguished dignitaries and stakeholders in the iLab Project, including Hon. J. Prospero E. de Vera III, Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Chairperson; Atty. Angelo A. Jimenez, UP System President; and Dr. Jose V. Camacho, Jr., UPLB Chancellor, among others.

The event began with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, followed by an opening address from UPLB Chancellor Camacho. CATL Director Dr. Edmund G. Centeno then gave a brief overview of the iLab project and demonstrated some of the key capabilities of the facility. Chairperson de Vera discussed the rationale behind the project and how he envisioned the connected iLab facilities around the globe would be able to aid the country’s SUCs in getting to a level at par with world-class standards.

President Jimenez shared his perspective on the iLab’s role in future-proofing the University’s delivery of quality education and offered advice on how CATL can further improve the services provided by the iLab. Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Agham C. Cuevas closed the program by consolidating all the guest speakers’ ideas and taking on the challenges that they presented.

The International Mobility in the New Normal: Modernizing the iLab as an Innovation Laboratory for Global Education and Digital Citizenship is a CHED – funded project implemented to help attain the goal of Future-proofing the University’s delivery of quality education by setting up state-of-the-art educational technology resources.
